Our 4-Step Valuation Process
Cooperhawk’s business valuation process is designed to provide owners with a clear, informed perspective on what their business may be worth. Here’s what you can expect.
-
Discovery
We start with an initial conversation to learn about your business, goals, and timeline. We’ll answer your questions and discuss whether a business valuation would be useful based on your circumstances.
-
Financial Review
You’ll provide relevant financial information, which may include tax returns, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and current year-to-date financials. We’ll review the information and identify potential adjustments that may help provide a clearer picture of the business’s financial performance.
-
Business Assessment
We’ll consider your financial performance, business characteristics, industry, market position, and other relevant factors. Where appropriate, we may also consider comparable business sales and market data to help develop an informed valuation range.
-
Deliver the Valuation
We’ll provide a summary of our findings and an estimated valuation range, along with observations about factors that may influence value and marketability.
Business Valuation FAQs
Yes. Cooperhawk offers complimentary business valuations with no obligation to sell. The valuation is designed to give you an informed perspective on what your business may be worth and factors that may affect value or marketability. If you are considering a sale, we can also discuss your timing and options.
Standard documents for a business valuation include three to five years of tax returns, profit and loss statements, balance sheets and current year-to-date profit and loss statements and balance sheet. Sending all the documents together instead of as separate submissions helps streamline the process. The specific information needed may vary depending on the business. If some information is unavailable, we can discuss what is available and what may be needed to complete the valuation.
Once we have the information needed for the valuation, many valuations can be completed within two to three business days. Timing may vary depending on the business, the complexity of the financial information, and whether additional information is needed. Our advisors personally review the information provided before discussing the valuation with you.
